March 31 is the Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV). This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the systemic issues and discrimination faced by transgender people, while also uplifting and celebrating trans people’s enduring contributions, resilience, and lived experiences.
There are resources available to support trans CUPE 3903 members today and every day:
- Trans Fund
- CUPE 3903’s Trans Fund is a fund of $40,000 that supports members who identify as trans with expenses related to transitioning, including surgery and everyday necessities.
- The Trans Fund is administered three times per year, except in emergency situations where members can apply to the committee on an ongoing basis.
- The Trans Fund is adjudicated by fellow CUPE 3903 members, and the Trans Fund Committee understands ‘trans’ to be a broad and inclusive term that includes genderqueer, transgender, transsexual, and gender variant among others.
- Trans Femininst Action Caucus
- The Trans Feminist Action Caucus (TFAC) is an autonomous body of CUPE 3903 that consists of all women, trans, gender queer and gender variant members of the Local. If that’s you, TFAC is your community!
- Check our calendar for upcoming TFAC meetings, and sign up for the TFAC newsletter to stay in the loop.
- If you need more TFAC info, email the TFAC Co-Chairs at tfac1@cupe3903.org and tfac2@cupe3903.org
- Trans Organizations and Resources!
- This list is compiled by the Trans Feminist Action Caucus and features trans-specific organizations and resources.
- Please note that inclusion on this list doesn’t indicate CUPE 3903 endorsement. This list is evolving and member-compiled, with items that are included for members’ information.
- CUPE 3903 Trans Feminist Action Caucus: Reaffirming Trans Solidarity
- This statement was issued in February 2025.
- “The Trans Feminist Action Caucus, with the full support of the CUPE 3903 Executive Committee, reaffirms its solidarity with the trans community. This reaffirmation comes in light of increasing threats to trans people’s rights and lives, both here and abroad.”
- “As the Trans Feminist Action Caucus of CUPE 3903, we stand in unwavering solidarity with our trans and nonbinary siblings and communities. We recognize the ongoing hate, violence, and systemic oppression faced by trans people, while also rejecting it. We will continue to build a community grounded in liberation, where trans people and people of all genders are treated with the same dignity and worth as they are due by virtue of our shared humanity.”
- “To all trans people in the United States, Canada, and beyond: TFAC, along with the Executive Committee of CUPE 3903, stands with you in resistance. We won’t let ourselves be erased.”
