Nominations Open: Disability Caucus Co-Chairs!

Nominations are now open for two Disability Caucus Co-Chair positions!

Information about Disability Caucus Co-Chairs

Per recently amended bylaws, two Disability Caucus Co-Chairs help form part of the Accessibility Committee. They are elected for a one-year term at a meeting of the Disability Caucus, with a $500 honorarium for their term of service. As this is a new role, time commitments are somewhat flexible and hybrid participation is possible, with the Accessibility Committee typically meeting once per month.

The Disability Caucus Co-Chairs’ role is to support the work of CUPE 3903’s Disability Caucus, which consists of:

  • Creating union spaces for disabled members to be in community with each other
  • Supporting disability inclusion and disability justice in all aspects of the Local
  • Collaborating with the Accessibility Committee to assist with meaningfully implementing accessibility measures
  • Fostering dialogue and developing recommendations about ableism and issues relating to disability both within CUPE 3903 and at York University as a whole
  • Liaising with the Executive Committee to identify priorities for disabled members

The Caucus understands that experiences of disability, ableism, sanism, and/or audism intersect with racism, anti-Blackness, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, anti-fatness, classism, settler coloniality, religious discrimination, linguistic discrimination, ethnic discrimination, and other forms of systemic oppression.

Eligibility and Nominations

All CUPE 3903 members are invited to apply if they self-identify as disabled and/or with the experience of ableism, sanism, and/or audism.

Nominations, with an optional candidate statement (maximum 200 words), can be emailed to access3903@gmail.com and CCed to communications@cupe3903.org. Please also reach out for any questions or to indicate any accessibility needs associated with your nomination.

Emailed nominations for Co-Chair are due by 11AM Eastern on June 18. Co-Chair elections will take place at the upcoming Disability Caucus meeting, happening on June 18 from 2-4PM in hybrid format. Members can also nominate themselves from the floor during the meeting.
