At Tuesday’s General Membership Meeting, there was a packed agenda, including by-elections for committees as well as a vote on a bylaw amendment to create a new Appendix M!
The bylaw amendment to create an Appendix M, constituting an endorsement policy for the Local, passed when voted on by the membership. This new appendix stipulates standard procedures for when CUPE 3903 is asked to make an endorsement of an event, statement, or otherwise. Going forward, requests for endorsement are to be voted on by default at General Membership Meetings, except for rare circumstances where they may specifically pertain to the functions of the Executive Committee. This new appendix to the bylaws does not prevent the Communications Officer from using their discretion to share community events and updates in a non-endorsing capacity to keep members informed. The new Appendix M also clarifies that CUPE 3903 does not endorse campaigns for political office.
As mentioned, there were also new members added to CUPE 3903’s committees! There are still some spots available on the union’s committees and lots of different ways to get involved, so don’t be shy to put your name forward in the future. Congratulations to our newest committee members! Please see the full results of both votes below, as well as a list of acclamations for uncontested committee positions.
