EHB Updates: Ongoing Adjudication, Depletion, Bargaining for Increase, and New Form

There are multiple updates this week from the Extended Health Benefits (EHB) Committee.

Backlog and Ongoing Adjudication

The EHB Committee is working diligently to clear the current backlog of applications, which resulted from a recent significant increase in the number of applications received. They truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as they continue to review and adjudicate applications as efficiently as possible.

Depletion, Bargaining for Increase, and Upcoming GMM

The EHB Fund has certain material limitations, and at this time, the EHB Fund has reached the point of the available funds in the current cycle being depleted. We are currently advocating for a much-needed increase to this fund in the ongoing bargaining for Units 1, 2, & 3 so that the EHB Fund has the monetary resources required to support more members more effectively. Despite the fund’s current depletion, at the moment, the EHB Committee is continuing to accept and work through applications. At the September 24 General Membership Meeting (GMM), there will be the opportunity for members to discuss plans to mitigate depletion-related difficulties.

New EHB Application Form

In addition, following bylaw amendments approved at the August 2026 GMM, the EHB Committee has updated the EHB application form to reflect the fund’s current functioning. Members are asked to use the new EHB application form for all future submissions. Please note that any application received previously on the earlier version of the form will be adjudicated accordingly, so there is no need to reapply. The new form can be found here: https://form.jotform.com/cupe3903/2026-ehb-fund-form
