Mapping FGS Program Completion Timelines

The Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) has recently indicated to some faculties that they would be more aggressive in enforcing program completion timelines and milestones. This includes threatening to de-enrol students and denial of petitions for upper-year students looking to continue their studies.

The union is concerned about how this will affect our members, as well as graduate students at York more broadly, and how FGS’s more aggressive stance will stifle research at York. In order to fight back, we need to know what FGS is telling people across the university.

If you’ve heard from FGS or your department about how these changes will affect you, please either fill out the mapping spreadsheet linked here with your own information or reach out to Matt Lomas, Recording Secretary, at recsec.cupe3903@gmail.com to let us know what FGS has told you and if/how your department is pushing back on it.

To get the contact information for your department, or if you want to be a contact for your department, please also reach out to the Recording Secretary at recsec.cupe3903@gmail.com.

The graphic’s text reads: Stop York’s clock! York U is increasing pressure to de-enrol grad students and limit program timelines. Share how the Faculty of Graduate Studies is enforcing milestones & timelines in your department!
