CUPE 3903 Exec: Solidarity with ITF Staff

The CUPE 3903 Executive Committee writes in solidarity with the staff at the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), as they call for genuine consultation and consensus-building amidst concerning reports of downsizing.

The ITF is a multi-million member union spanning countries all across the globe, with a strong history of fighting for the rights of transport workers. Their staff are crucial in supporting this important work. ITF staff have described experiencing alarming restructuring measures and worrying levels of cuts, including a 25% cut announced to London, UK staff in 2025 and 100% current or former union reps put at genuine risk of redundancy.

As of July 4, 2025, it has been reported that “More than 100 workers at the London-based International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) will strike over planned redundancies and attacks on collective bargaining.” These workers, members of Unite the Union, have faced significant job cuts despite a lack of cuts affecting senior management, whose wages have actually increased.

At York University, CUPE 3903 members are no strangers to the harmful effects that restructuring and unfair bargaining practices can have on workers. The CUPE 3903 Executive Committee sends our support to the ITF staff, and you can click here to send a message in solidarity.
