Committee members: Have your say on bylaw amendments!

Are you a member of one of CUPE 3903’s committees, or have you been involved with committees previously?

The January General Membership Meeting included a notice of proposed amendments to our bylaws that are aimed to update and improve the ways our committees function.

We’d love your input before these are voted on in February’s General Memebership Meeting! Click here to see the proposed amendments.

Motivation and principles guiding the amendments:

  • Increasing communication and coordination between committees and the Executive Committee and between committees and the membership
  • Increasing committee functionality and accountability to the membership
  • Aligning the bylaws on committees with CUPE National’s Guide to Preparing Local Union Bylaws
  • Fiscally adapting and standardizing the costs of committee honoraria to the extent practicable to take into account the Local’s precarious financial position
  • Prioritizing accessibility as part of the day-to-day work of committees
  • Updating the bylaw language to remove defunct committees and outdated wording
  • Ensuring the alphabetization of committees is consistent throughout
  • Ensuring the section of Article 14 Elections agrees with changes made to Article 10 (specifically the Elections Officer)
