Subsidized Daycare

The Collective Agreement includes a childcare subsidy allocated to each of the on-campus child care facilities – $50,000 to the Student Centre Childcare facility (known as the Lee Wiggins Childcare Centre) and $60,000 to the York Co-Operative Day Care Centre. These amounts are pooled among all applicants hence, amounts vary, with reimbursement levels determined by the number of eligible members applying for a subsidy in any given year.

How to Apply

There is no deadline to apply. To do so, contact either on-campus child care facility directly. Note that the subsidy applies to these two facilities only. Email a copy of your paystub or a copy of your contract as proof of membership in CUPE 3903.

Lee Wiggins Childcare Centre (LWCC):

CUPE 3903 and LWCC have a subsidy agreement that provides members a certain percentage off their childcare fees. Members must be the CUPE 3903 eligibility criteria for current or political membership, as outlined in Article 6. f) of the CUPE 3903 bylaws (“Any member whose employment terminates may maintain her membership for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of termination, and shall be considered a member in good standing”).

Members must provide a photocopy of their current or most recent teaching contract, or proof of current CUPE membership via email or mail.

CUPE subsidy amounts are subject to fluctuation, but typically range from 20% to 50% of monthly childcare costs. The number of CUPE users at LWCC and the amount of care they use will affect the amount of subsidy available. The CUPE subsidy will remain in effect as long as the CUPE subsidy funds are available and does not go below the $12.00 per day minimum as required from the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system.

York University Co-operative Daycare (YUCDC):

CUPE 3903 and YUCDC have an agreement that provides our members a childcare fee subsidy.  Members must meet the CUPE 3903 eligibility criteria for current or political membership, as outlined in Article 6.f, of the CUPE 3903 bylaws.  Members must provide one of the following documents for eligibility: a photocopy of their current, most recent teaching contract, or current CUPE membership.  One of these three documents can either be dropped off at the YUCDC Office or sent via email to daycare@yorku.ca.

The amount of subsidy available for each family is determined by the number of CUPE members registered with YUCDC. CUPE subsidy amounts are subject to fluctuation, but typically range from 20% to 50% of monthly childcare costs. The CUPE subsidy will remain in effect as long as the CUPE subsidy funds are available.
