SUMMARY:York United for Equity and Against Austerity: Open Forum
DESCRIPTION:If you’re afraid York’s programs and campus are being dismantled\, you’re not alone. The York administration appears to have abandoned its vision to provide “a broad sociodemographic of students with access to a high quality education” \, its mission to “explore global concerns”\, “encourage bilingual study”\, and its commitment to “social justice” and “collegial self-governance”.\n\nThe administration permits unsafe living and working conditions\, overpaying senior administrators rather than funding basic services for its students. There are also plans for increased securitization on campus\, such as through a special constables program. The York upper administration is all about restructuring. The York University Board of Governors is the most corporate dominated and least representative in the country. We say RESTRUCTURE THIS!\n\nJoin us to hear more about problems on campus–and have your say about what’s not working for you\, and what we need to make a better York!   Together we can push the administration to stop budget bullying through cutbacks\, while it spends millions on consultants and high priced lawyers. Let’s put into practice the University’s core value of Social Justice and Equity through critical insight\, creative problem solving\, and socially responsible action.\n\nMarch 5\, 3-5pm\n\n\nHNES 140\, next to the Second Student Centre and Ross South.\n\n\nAccessibility: the location is on the ground floor in an accessible building. There are two all-gender\, wheelchair accessible bathrooms. Refreshments will be served.\n\nA hybrid option is available at this link for those who cannot attend in person.\n\nFor more information\, please contact Zoë Newman\, 3903 Chairperson\, at cupe3903chairperson@gmail.com\n\nWhether you can attend or not\, you can still fill out the survey to help document concerns at York U!

SUMMARY:TFAC History Project
DESCRIPTION:As suggested in a recent TFAC meeting\, a subgroup of us are interested in putting together a kind of “TFAC History” [official name TBD] for ourselves\, future members\, and for the public via the new CUPE 3903 website. There’s an increasing call among members to know and honour our history\, so this project is one such response to that call. Working with the Archives Committee and current/past members\, the goal is to understand how the Women’s Caucus and then TFAC came to be\, to honour our struggles\, and to celebrate our wins (like the Trans Fund). \nWe will be meeting on Monday February 10 from 12-1:30 PM. This meeting is hybrid so you can join in person at the CUPE 3903 office (143 Atkinson) or by using this Zoom link. \nIf you’re interested in being part of this work in any capacity\, please fill out this Google Form.

SUMMARY:Conversion and LSTA Application Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join our Conversion and Careers Advisor\, Professor Kym Bird\, for the last in a series of workshops on preparing your application for conversion and other tenure-stream hiring searches at York. This first workshop will focus primarily on helping Unit 2 members in the Conversion (or “Affirmative Action”) Pool to prepare their applications for conversion appointments. \nZoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82623493806?pwd=AOX6aPftAerzemkFtATjjRiMwzqdle.1 \nThe workshop will focus on advising members on : \n\nHow the conversion process works\nHow to prepare strong files in teaching\, research\, and service\nHow to yourself as attractive as possible as a candidate for potential upcoming positions at York \n\n  \nThe best application files are constructed over time! An application for a conversion appointment\, for example\, must include a current curriculum vitae; letters of reference (including external letters); and an assessment by the hiring unit of the candidate’s teaching\, research\, and scholarly or creative work\, their service potential\, how their appointment fulfills departmental needs\, and (where appropriate and in light of the candidate’s unique career path) an assessment of the candidate’s potential for participation in graduate teaching and supervision.   \n  \nMembers applying for conversion are generally required to submit their applications in February for appointments beginning July 1. (More details of the process will be communicated later by Faculty Relations and the Union.) \n  \nConversion and Career Advice Workshops are open to all CUPE 3903 members interested in compiling a strong application package for conversion and LSTA appointments or who might\, in future\, be a position to apply for employment under either program.  \n  \nProfessor Kym Byrd is a YUFA member in the Division of Humanities and a former CUPE 3903 Unit 2 member. Her primary role as Career Advisor is to assist contract faculty members in career planning and Professional Development to prepare them to apply for conversion and tenure-stream applications at York. In addition to these workshops\, Dr. Bird is also available for one-on-one consultations about building your application file. Contact Dr. Byrd at kbird@yorku.ca.
